What is restorative dentistry?

Rebuilding What Your Teeth Lost — Function First, Appearance Follows

Restorative dentistry covers everything between a small filling and a full mouth of implant-supported teeth. The common thread is damage — whether from decay, fracture, wear, or time — and the question of how to rebuild what was lost so the tooth works properly again.

Your dentist assesses what healthy tooth structure remains, what the tooth needs to handle day-to-day, and which material is most appropriate for that specific situation based on the clinical evidence available. Sometimes that is a simple composite filling placed in twenty minutes. Sometimes it is a porcelain crown fabricated in a dental laboratory over two appointments.

The honest part: not every tooth needs the most expensive option. A well-placed filling can last many years for the right tooth. A tooth that genuinely needs a crown is unlikely to hold with a filling alone. Your dentist explains the difference — and the cost — before anything starts.

Our restorative services include dental implants, crowns and bridges, root canal treatment, and custom dentures. All treatments are performed by our AHPRA-registered dental team.

Not Sure What Your Tooth Needs?

A thorough assessment is always the starting point. Your dentist examines the tooth, takes X-rays if needed, and explains what is going on before discussing any options. No assumptions, no pressure.

How It Works

From Assessment to Restoration — Three Clear Steps

Every restorative case starts with understanding the problem. Here is how the process unfolds.

Assessment

Your dentist examines the tooth, takes digital X-rays, and — for complex cases like implant planning — may use the CBCT scanner for a three-dimensional view. Findings appear on the ceiling-mounted screen so you see exactly what your dentist sees. Nothing is assumed. Everything is documented.

Your Treatment Plan

Your dentist explains every option in plain language: what the tooth needs, what each approach involves, how long it takes, and what it costs — line by line. You receive a printed plan to take home. There is no expiry date and no follow-up calls chasing a decision. The right choice is the one you make when you are ready.

Restoration

Whether it is a filling completed in a single visit or a crown that requires two appointments with a dental laboratory, your dentist works with precision and patience. Warm blankets if you want them. Ceiling TVs. Regular check-ins throughout the procedure. Once the restoration is placed, your dentist checks the fit, the bite, and the margins — then schedules a follow-up to make sure everything has settled. For surgical procedures including implant placement, any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks; your dentist will discuss these fully before work begins.

The Right Restoration for Every Tooth

A filling that lasts ten years is not less impressive than a crown — it is the right treatment for a tooth that only needed a filling. The skill is knowing the difference.
